About 10/85: The rap duo known as Ten8Five consists of “Block” (Larvon Hines, born October 28, 1985) and “J.Carr” (James Carr born October 25, 1985) They have known each other since the age of five. They grew up in the same working Class neighborhood in the northeast section of Washington, DC called Edgewood. These two talented up and coming hip hop artists' relentless rapid fire street lyrics and energetic beats give listeners a treat.
Born during the tumultuous times of the mid-eighties “Block” and “J.Carr” began looking at a career in hip-hop during their teenage years. An avid sports fan and athlete in high school, Larvon “Block” Hines dreamed of becoming a professional football player but fell in love with hip hop and began pursuing a career in music. James “J. Carr” began playing keyboards at the age of 11 and started rapping when he was thirteen. “J.Carr began taking rapping seriously at the age of 16 and began to realize he wanted to pursue a career in the music industry.
“We want to make a mark in the music industry as rap icons and be the first from the nation’s capital to succeed nationally and abroad” says Larvon. “We want to be known as the most versatile rappers in the game” says James. Ten8Five’s goal is to also give back to the community, work with young people, and build a legacy to better our lives and our families. Ten8Five has performed in showcases all around the DMV.
