About Big G: Anwan grew up in the Uptown district of Washington, DC playing on buckets in various neighborhoods around the city hoping to someday gain the popularity and success of whom he considered to be his heroes, the late Godfather of GoGo Mr. Chuck Brown who Anwan affectionately called 'Pops' and Junkyard Band's own Buggs. In the late 1990's Anwan's dedication soon turned into him becoming a GoGo legend himself and use his status to give back to the communities who supported him but he also wanted to become a representative not only for the GoGo community but also for the entire DMV and represent his city to his highest potential.
Anwan became very active in the community, collaborating with local non-profit charities and inner city programs to promote non- violence, HIV awareness and domestic violence. Additionally, he has also assisted the less fortunate with fundraisers such as toy, food, shoe and coat drives. He continued to strive for a type of success that was unheard of in his community but he knew that if he made an impact nationally he would be able to help his city.
Anwan became intrigued with acting and began auditioning for roles and landed several roles in local independent film but his big break came when he was booked for a reoccurring role on HBO's hit series 'The Wire' as 'Slim Charles.' His notable portrayal of 'Slim Charles' developed into a local and national fan favorite. He successfully completed three (3) seasons on 'The Wire' until the series ended in 2008. Anwan's fame from the 'The Wire' catapulted him and lead to appearances in music videos with Rick Ross, Vivian Green, Raheem Devaughn and more. He also had roles in hit series such as Law & Order SVU, Ugly Betty, Treme' and Elementary. Recently Anwan has gained roles in movies 'LUV' starring Common and Oscar Nominated film 'Twelve Years A Slave.' Later in 2014, the thriller 'Dermaphoria' will be released, Anwan starred as Otto in the film alongside Kate Walsh and more.
He is continuing to surpass his childhood dreams, he now has a weekly radio show on Washington, DC's leading radio station WKYS every Sunday from 6p - 10p. After 5 successful GoGo albums, with one album hitting Billboards Top 100 charts, he decided to release his solo album titled 'Transformation,' which is now available on iTunes.
