D.C.’s very own hometown hip-hop star, Wale, visited the White House Thursday and performed in front of the president.
Wale — an avid D.C. sports fan who can be spotted at Ben’s Chili Bowl or performing at a free concert along H Street NE — was at the White House for a Michelle Obama-hosted conference helping teenagers overcome struggles and ultimately succeed in college.
President Barack Obama attended Wale’s mini-concert in the White House’s East Room.
The Seinfeld-obsessed, Grammy nominated artist was born in D.C. to Nigerian immigrants and moved to the Maryland suburbs when he was kid and, throughout his career, has incorporated go-go beats into his music. He attended colleges in Virginia and Maryland on football scholarships, but eventually dropped out. - usa today
