About Akshan: Akshan is a Jamaican-born artist gifted with a confidence and command of stage that places him in a category of his own. His style cross references his native patois with a euro-pop dynamic to create a modern “Euro-Yard” style and genre indicative of who he is as an artist. Cross referencing the familiar yard patois and the English vernaculars, he has mastered a unique harmony driven hybrid style that truly set him apart from his contemporaries.
Akshan’s 2005 debut album “Time fi Akshan,” which is currently available on I-tunes, received much acclaim from fans, music critics and casual listeners alike. The debut project served as an introduction to the true star potential Akshan possesses. As a self defined evolved reggae artist, he has progressed in his evolution incorporating the many musical influences throughout his life to become the artist he is today. With a resume that includes highlights performing alongside such artists as “Jr. Marvin” of the Wailers, national recording artists The Clipse, John Legend, Trey songs, and Kanye West, Akshan is determined to take his place among the greats in this industry. Akshan has performed in venues throughout the east coast and international stages from Jamaica to Costa Rica.
In 2010, Akshan released the pop-centric single, “Jealous Type”, produced by Arsonal (Akon, Wale, Sean Garrett, Raheem Devaughn, Pusha T). The song received extremely positive feedback as an independently released single amassing over 10,000 downloads in the first week, winning over fans worldwide. Following up on the success of Jealous Type, Akshan has released the “Island Rocker” which features the lead single “Jealous Type” along with a number of Arsonal-produced tracks including the title track “Island Rocker” and “Californicate”, which features vocals from songstress Laura Song.
As an artist, Akshan thrives in the performance of live music, surrounded by the thunderous beat of a kick drum, the boom of the bass and the ranging melodies of a guitar. Showcasing his music, Akshan can be seen performing live with the DubCity Renegades consistently amassing over 100 shows annually.
